For All Physicians, APPs and Residents
As of Jan. 1, new regulations require e-prescriptions for controlled substances. New guidelines also allow advanced practice providers with e-prescribing capabilities to e-prescribe controlled medications using SecureAuth. This applies to inpatient discharge medications and outpatient medication orders placed in clinic.
- APPs cannot place outpatient orders for Schedule II medications.
- Residents with institutional DEAs cannot e-prescribe controlled substances, only non-controlled substances.
- Residents with their own DEAs (non-institutional) can e-prescribe controlled substances.
