System Restraint Policy and Restraint Types Updated

The System Restraint Policy is now updated to meet new regulatory requirements.

  • A physician assistant is no longer required to inform the physician following a face-to-face assessment.
  • Restraint-associated deaths are now submitted to the CMS regional office via an electronic report by designated hospital staff.

You’ll also see Restraint Type revisions that will align violent and non-violent Restraint Types for providers and nurses.

Violent Restraint Revisions:

  • When entering the order, select one or more Restraint Type.
  • Mitt description revised.
  • Side-rails x4

Non-Violent Restraint Revisions:

  • When entering the order, select one or more Restraint Type.
  • Mitt description revised.
