Steps to Take Before, During and After the Dec. 9 Epic Downtime

Before the downtime:

Please review the following downtime resources:

During the downtime:

  • Epic Read-Onlywill be available to view patient information, current as of the start of the downtime.
    • Remember, you can’t document or place orders in Epic Read-Only.
  • Dragondictation devices will be disconnected from Epic Read-Only at some point during the downtime.
    • If you use Dragon, you’ll be prompted to reboot your machine, with a 10-minute countdown.
    • If you don’t reboot or your device isn’t on during the full downtime, you may experience PowerMic

To Access Epic After the Downtime:

One of the changes with our new Epic cloud hosting is a special back-end app (Citrix Workspace) to manage system access. This app has already been installed on HM-managed devices. If you use a personal computer to access Epic (e.g., desktop, laptop), you must install the Citrix Workspace app on that device to continue using Epic after Dec. 9. To install the Citrix Workspace app:

  • Non-Mac users: Click here to install Citrix Workspace.
  • Mac users only: Click here to install Citrix Workspace.

After the downtime, use either of the following to access Epic:

  • The Epic icon on your workstation. See instructions below if the icon doesn’t appear.
  • The Access portal (houstonmethodist.org).
