Physicians systemwide are taking advantage of the valuable self-service tool, SlicerDicer, to explore and visualize patient data and act on their findings. Physicians are continuously adding patient information into Epic — SlicerDicer puts that patient data at your fingertips, allowing you to retrieve it in real time.
We caught up with Dr. Angela McCain, rheumatologist, who routinely leverages SlicerDicer to keep her patients safe and ensure they are getting state-of-the-art therapies for their disorders.
“SlicerDicer adds to the art of treating patients,” said Dr. McCain. “When new therapies become available, I use it to quickly identify patients with a specific diagnosis, subtype it and only those specified patients come up on my list. This helps me drill down to say twelve patient charts out of 2,800 that I actually need to review to find out if that therapy would work for them.”
“It’s also helped when we’ve had a drug recall,” said Dr. McCain. “It was easy to pull an immediate list of patients prescribed the recalled medication and contact them. Although it’s not exclusively the physician’s job to notify patients of a drug recall, I felt better knowing I did my due diligence in notifying my patients and keeping them safe,” said Dr. McCain.
“SlicerDicer will really save you time over the long run,” said Dr. McCain. It’s easy to convince yourself that you’re too overwhelmed and can’t take the time to learn how to use it. If you will take a little time to figure it out, SlicerDicer can do the work for you — you will no longer have to manually try to figure out what’s hiding in the chart.”
