Radiology Lab Scanning Project Ending, Fosters Increased Patient Safety

On Tuesday, May 21, lab scanning will launch for ultrasound, CT, MRI, Diagnostics, IR and endovascular PACU nurses and techs at all community hospitals. This launch marks the end of a three-year effort to enable increased patient safety.

The project, led by the nursing informatics team, involved deploying 40 wireless printers to HM community hospitals that will enable a reduction in specimen collection errors by supporting barcode scans of the patient wristband and lab label to confirm the correct specimen is connected to the right patient. This will also help reduce turnaround times for processing.
