If you get a call from someone saying they’re with our IT Help Desk, be very careful — particularly if you haven’t contacted the Help Desk.
Scammers posing as our Houston Methodist IT Help Desk have called some of our employees recently. This attack is one more reason why it’s critical for us all to remain vigilant against cybercrime.
We’re not alone. Microsoft, Apple and a number of other organizations have experienced the same kind of cyberattacks. The Federal Trade Commission even provides warnings about this activity.
Help us stay safe.
- Be on the lookout for phony Help Desk calls, and report any suspicious calls or emails to spamspotting@houstonmethodist.org.
- Don’t click on any links that offer things like a “free security scan” or sound an alarm like “your computer is at risk.” Our IT Security team safeguards our systems behind the scenes and doesn’t send pop-ups or messages like that.
