For ED and Critical Care Nursing
To meet organ donation notification requirements by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), a new BestPractice Advisory (BPA) will fire when ICU and ED patients with an active endotracheal tube have a Glasgow Coma Scale under 5.
The BPA prompts nurses to contact LifeGift within the next hour and links to the documentation flowsheet. If the nurse indicates the patient is intentionally sedated or if LifeGift notification is already documented, the BPA will be locked out for 24 hours.
A LifeGift referral report is available in Patient List and Summary Activity reports by entering Life in
the search field.
