A new tool in Epic, the Nursing Assignment Wizard, is now available to help charge nurses in all inpatient units, except for OB, create nursing assignments. This tool also helps assign nurses to their patients’ care teams, which enables care team communications through the new iPhones.
Using the Nursing Assignment Wizard, charge nurses can review patient details for their unit from a single report, then simply right-click on a patient and select the nurse they want to assign. Alternatively, patient assignments may be made by dragging and dropping each patient to the desired nurse.
The Nursing Assignment Wizard includes a list of all patients on the unit and the available staff per LaborWorkx schedules. In addition, the Wizard includes the following to make more balanced assignments:
- Patient name and room/bed
- Deterioration Index score
- Sepsis score
- Primary problem
- Isolation status
- Length of stay
- Expected discharge date
- Attending provider
