HM faces increased cybersecurity threats every day. Unfortunately, health care organizations are the primary targets of cybercriminals attempting to collect ransom or disrupt care. To mitigate these risks and for better security, starting Monday, Feb. 3, the following restrictions will be made around Access Portal usage.

Epic/Epic icon will be removed from the Access Portal (access.houstonmethodist.org). Use epic.houstonmethodist.org, instead.

HM employees can only use the Access Portal on HM-issued devices. Note: This doesn’t apply to providers and non-HM employees. They’ll still have access.

If you need Access Portal or Epic access when traveling abroad, you must request access/approval at least five days before leaving the country. This requirement is already in place for Epic, but starting Feb. 3, you must request approval for the Access Portal, as well, and you’ll be able to make both requests through a new, online form available on the IT Support website.
