A new assessment tool documenting mobility of patients is now a part of the ICU Complex Assessment Flowsheet. The Surgical ICU Optimal Mobilization Score (SOMS) assessment rates the patient using safety criteria for advancing mobilization on a scale from No mobilization (0) to Ambulation (4).
This systemwide mobility protocol should improve early ambulation in ICU patients.
