IP Providers: Daily Communication Text Message Changes

Use Free-Text Field Instead

Some of the selections available for Daily Communication text updates to patients’ loved ones have been removed and only a few options will remain. We’ve received feedback from patients’ families and loved ones that they prefer receiving personalized inpatient text messages (free-text), that are specific to the patient versus close-ended, scripted messages. You’re encouraged to use the Free-Text to Families field instead of a generic selection, whenever possible.

Tips to improve the quality of your free-text messages:

  • Patients’ families appreciate positive, encouraging notes on the plan of care (e.g., which physicians have rounded on the patient, their recommendations, the plans for the day, etc.).

  • Focus on new information that hasn’t already been relayed through verbal updates.

If you enter incorrect information or enter information on the wrong chart, quickly delete your original entry. When you delete your entry within a couple minutes of writing it, the original message won’t be sent, but the key is to act fast. There’s an intentional lag of approximately 20 minutes between the time the message is written and the time it’s sent. If you need to be sure the message wasn’t sent, contact Courtenay Bruce or Ashleigh Kamencik-Wright.
