On Nov. 14, Houston Methodist became the first hospital system to successfully launch Electronic Case Reporting (eCR). The eCR system automatically sends case reports directly from a hospital to public health agencies. Per state and local health district requirements, hospitals are required to report cases of certain communicable and/or infectious diseases.
“We created an innovative approach allowing our hospital system to reduce the burden on our health care providers for meeting public health reporting requirements,” said Roberta Schwartz, HM chief innovation officer and HMH executive vice president. This eCR system was a collaboration between Houston Methodist, Epic and the Houston Health Department.
