For Eveyone
Although Epic and MyChart are linked, they aren’t the same program and content you can legally view or edit also varies.
Epic hosts legal medical records that are owned by HM. MyChart is a portal intended for patient interaction, communication and involvement in care. Following are a few important points highlighting the differences between Epic and MyChart.
Epic
- Epic records are legal documents. HM is required to protect their integrity.
- Entries represent care-related information and are made by providers, not the patient.
- You aren’t authorized to document your own medical record, including minor changes such as changing the spelling of a name or updating your address or contact information.
- Violations are grounds for termination.
MyChart
- View your medical information.
- Request copies of your records.
- Communicate with your provider’s office.
- Request updates to your information.
- Grant permission for others to view your information.
- View a loved one’s account or submit changes. Note: This is only possible if a MyChart Proxy Application has been completed.
- Track your health.
- Pay medical bills.
Note: You may not access a co-worker’s record in Epic. The only exception to this is if your co-worker is being cared for in a department where you work, and it is within your scope of work to access and make updates to their record because they’re a patient.
