Get Hyped for Epic Hyperdrive

On Sunday, February 11, 2024, the first wave of Houston Methodist facilities will transition to Epic Hyperdrive, a special internet browser — like Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge — but only used to access a web-based version of Epic, instead of an application installed on your workstation. This change will be a behind-the-scenes change, so you’ll still use the same link, icon or access portal to access Epic.

While your Epic workflows won’t change, you should experience improved system performance and a more modern look and feel to some activities. Other new features include:

  • Find Recent Searches in Storyboard. The Search field in Storyboard shows the five most recent patient information searches before you start typing to make it easier for you.
  • Find Activities More Easily with Synonyms. There are more synonyms to help you find activities when you can’t remember the exact name. For example, searching for “slicer dicer” returns a result for the SlicerDicer
  • Identify “My Patients” in Searches. Use the My Patients checkbox in Patient Lookup to find patients you’ve interacted with before.
  • Know a Patient’s Status. You are notified of appointment status changes (like when the patient is in the waiting room), via Epic on a workstation, Haiku, Canto and Rover.
  • Zoom In and Out. Zoom in and out in Epic on a workstation to fit more content on the screen or to make content easier to see. Zooming in Epic on a workstation works like popular web browsers such as Chrome or Edge.

Hyperdrive also includes some new features, including the ability to update Epic faster, with shorter downtimes. This means better reliability so you can do what you do best — take care of patients.

Look for more information and training resources to be available closer to the launch date.
