Cybersecurity Awareness Month: ‘Catch a Phish’ Tournament Final Winners

Cybersecurity Awareness Month has come to an end and so has the “Catch a Phish” tournament. Each week throughout the month of October, if you reported a phishing email you were entered in a drawing for a chance to win an HM-branded backpack. We also gave you a shoutout in IT Matters.

Congratulations to all of our Catch a Phish Tournament winners.

This phishing tournament hopefully brought out some friendly competition but also reinforced the importance of identifying and reporting suspicious emails and helping to keep Houston Methodist secure.

Remember, cybercriminals love to “phish” for business and personal information, so don’t take the bait. Instead, report the phish and reel in your prize.

Tips to catch a phishing email:

  • Is the offer too good to be true?

  • Does it include urgent or alarming language?

  • Does it have poor spelling, grammar or generic greetings?

  • Are there suspicious links or strange requests?

If you receive a suspicious email, don’t click any links — even the unsubscribe link — or reply back to the email. While deleting the message is good, we strongly suggest you use the Report Phish or Report Suspicious buttons to report the phish.
