Clinical iPhones Rollout Resumes for Community Hospitals

The long-awaited rollout of new iPhones for clinical workspaces is ready to resume at our community hospitals. As with the iPhones at HMH, which launched earlier this year, these will replace our current Zebra TC52 Rover phones. Every user will be assigned their own permanent phone number extension, regardless of which physical iPhone is being used.

In addition to Rover, the phones will be pre-loaded with Vocera Edge, a phone dialer app with a built-in directory for easily contacting internal HM staff. During this interim period, since the rollout at HMH, we’re excited to share that we’ve been able to simplify our phone set-up and log-in process!

We need your support to make the rollouts a success by volunteering to be a super user and using assignment wizard to facilitate assignments to patient care teams.

Device go-lives are planned as follows with training through LMS starting two weeks prior to each site launch:

  • HMCCH: Sept. 9-15

  • HMW: Sept. 16-22

  • HMWB: Sept. 23-29

  • HMTW: Sept. 30 – Oct. 6

  • HMCL: Oct. 14-20

  • HMB: Oct. 21-27

  • HMSL: Oct. 28 – Nov. 3

Additional benefits of the new iPhones include:

  • HIPAA-compliant messaging using Epic’s Secure Chat, including push notifications to the iPhone.

  • Streamlined communication using a single device.

  • Easily accessible, accurate, real-time contact information and patient care team assignments.

  • Integration of Rover for role-based communication.

  • Contacts preloaded in Vocera Edge app (e.g., common facility numbers, staff contact numbers, etc.).
