Updates: System Restraint Policy and Restraint Types

For Inpatient Providers and Nurses

Effective Jan. 27

On Monday, Jan. 27, the System Restraint Policy will be updated to meet new regulatory requirements.

  • A physician assistant is no longer required to inform the physician following a face-to-face assessment.

  • Restraint-associated deaths are now submitted to the CMS regional office via an electronic report by designated hospital staff.

You’ll also see Restraint Type revisions that will align violent and non-violent Restraint Types for providers and nurses.
