Postal Service Delivers Cybersecurity Warnings for the Holidays

“Porch pirates” and cybercriminals are messing with our merry this time of year. The US Postal Service is delivering special warnings to be on the lookout for phishing and smishing scams and counterfeit postage.

When you see emails with a subject line, “Delivery Failure Notice,” be careful. The post office will never contact you directly by email or text you unless you initiated the request. Text messages asking you to pay unpaid postage charges are also fake. As always, don’t click links or download attachments if you’re unsure.

Cybercriminals are also using social media to offer 20 to 50% off postage stamps. If this seems too good to be true, it is. Avoid purchasing stamps from online websites or third-party wholesalers. Instead, get them from your local post office or an approved provider, like your grocery store (e.g., Walmart or Target).
