Starting Monday, Dec. 11, ED providers will use the ED Bed Request order for patients needing inpatient care, instead of Admit to Inpatient. Official status orders (Admit to Inpatient and Outpatient Observation) will be restricted to admission order sets.

ED providerswill place the ED Bed Request order when the decision has been made to admit the patient and a bed needs to be requested.

Epic will begin reminding providers to place the official status orders four hours after the ED Bed Request order is placed.

This ED Bed Request order provides a preliminary status, so patients can be transferred to their identified units prior to the official status order being placed.

Admitting providers will use the Admission Order Set to place Admission orders and address the VTE Risk Tool.
