Increasingly, cybercriminals are attempting to steal logins and personal information via scam phone calls, pretending to be with technical support, like Houston Methodist IT.
The caller either claims they’ve been notified of problems with your computer or offers to check for issues. From there, they try to persuade you to allow remote access to your computer to check its condition, then install malware to “fix” the issue.
If you receive an unsolicited phone call from someone saying they’re from the HM IT Service Desk, tell them you’ll call them back at the number you have on file, then hang up and call the IT Service Desk at 832.667.5600 to verify.
