Updating Email Distribution Lists

You can update distribution lists without contacting the IT Service Desk, as long as you are the owner of the list. To learn which distribution lists you own:

  • Go to houstonmethodist.org.
  • Open the Distribution List Ownership app, and enter your HM email address in the box titled Find Distribution Lists That You Own.

You will receive an email with the names of the lists you own.

Need to become the owner of a DL? Contact the IT Service Desk (itsupport.houstonmethodist.org), and let us know the name of the DL you want to own, exactly as it appears in Outlook. Be sure to include a good contact number and the best time to reach you, in case we need more information.

If you need to update a DL that you don’t own, contact the owner directly. Find out who owns the distribution list using the Distribution List Ownership app on access.houstonmethodist.org. Detailed instructions are in this tip sheet.

To create a new DL or remove one that you own but no longer use, contact the IT Service Desk (itsupport.houstonmethodist.org).

How long does it take for DL changes to take effect? After one hour, you can email using the updated distribution list. However, you won’t see the change to the distribution list in Outlook for about 24 hours.
