SPG/PCG Providers: ASCVD and Diabetes Statin BPAs

Starting Monday, Aug. 1, two new BPAs — ASCVD (atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease) and Diabetes Statin — will display when you choose a diagnosis code during a virtual visit, telephone consult or an in-office visit for patients participating in Medicare Advantage Value Base Program registries, within the current reporting (calendar) year.

This change aligns with American College of Cardiology/American Heart Association (ACC/AHA) and American Diabetes Association (ADA) guidelines recommending statin therapy for patients with diabetes and/or clinical atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD), for primary and secondary prevention of ASCVD events. The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid (CMS) and other payors have also adopted this measure as a quality metric to improve patient outcomes and provider/health care organization accountability.
