Review Epic Deterioration Index Resources to Optimize Usage

For Inpatient Providers and Clinicians

The Epic Deterioration Index (EDI) is our new tool for early detection and intervention of at-risk patients through Epic. EDI replaced the Rothman Index last December in Epic and on Epic monitor display boards.

For a refresher on using EDI, including some tips and tricks, please review the following training:

• Providers: View a brief training video at houstonmethodist.org/edi-provider-video and view this tip sheet.

• Inpatient Nurses: Training is available and assigned in LMS (Epic CLN5000 Epic Deterioration Index (EDI), course #1600009).

The color-coded EDI numerical score updates every 15 minutes and is available on the Overview Summary Report through an icon on the nursing Brain activity. A Deterioration Index column also can be added on the Patient List (use the wrench to add columns).
