Transfusion Services successfully implemented the ABO and Rh Confirmation process systemwide, putting patient safety first. This is an automated process, and there are no significant changes to your workflow.
Important:
- Do not remove the ABO and Rh Confirmation order, change the phase of care or release it – this can delay blood products.
- When you order a Type and Screen or blood products, Epic automatically orders an ABO and Rh Confirmation as Signed and Held.
- If required, the lab will release the ABO and Rh Confirmation order and contact nurses when a specimen is needed.
- Be sure to proactively review your patients’ histories and order blood type and screens when needed.
To find out more, review the tip sheet or contact your hospital’s blood bank.
