As a result of the amount of COVID-19 information and public interest, cyber scams are on the rise. A malicious app, offering statistics on the COVID-19 pandemic and a heat map of outbreak hotspots, is being spread by cyber criminals. The app locks Android devices and victims are given a 48-hour deadline to pay a $100 ransom in exchange for the password. The ransomware also threatens to erase your contacts and photos, leak your social media accounts and sends you a message that your location is known.
