To ensure the correct pneumococcal vaccine is administered, the Prevnar 13 BestPractice
Advisory will now trigger when a patient is 65 or older, or age 19 to 64 with any of these
comorbidities:
- Cochlear implant
- Cerebrospinal fluid leak
- Functional/anatomic asplenia
- Sickle-cell disease
- Chronic renal failure
- Immunocompromising condition
- Immunosuppressive therapy
A new BPA, linked to orders for Pneumovax 23, will trigger when a patient meets the criteria for a
pneumococcal vaccine, and is age 19 to 64 with any of these comorbidities:
- Alcoholism
- Chronic cardiovascular, liver or pulmonary disease
- Cigarette smoker
- Diabetes
